The purpose of this project is to create a visual system for Korean Heritage House to commercialize and to easily communicate with the general public. Traditionally, Korea had different set of symbolism and identity systems from that of Europe or North America. The traditional symbols are carried on by stamps and hieroglyphs, which are not familiar to the modern general public. Also, Korean Heritages Houses are disappearing due to the extensive urbanization. Therefore, I saw the need to modernize the visual system of Korea not only to familiarize and recognize it, but also to protect the Heritage House by exposing it to the general public. As a case study, I have selected Hwagyung-dang, which is a Heritage House located in the Village that was chosen as a Unesco World Heritage. The inspiration for the identity is the evergreen tree in the backyard of the house that was planted by the founding member of the house. |
